    INSTRUCTIONS

SETTING UP FOR YOUR PRACTICE SESSION

    512104419.jpg
    1. Gather and inspect all your supplies.
    2. When using a task trainer for the first time, hold it, “skin” side up, with one hand along each of the long sides and gently apply downward pressure to create a slight curve to insert the SBV and to better fit the more natural curve of the “patient’s” neck or leg. The smaller sizes may need additional help to place the SBVs, so we've included something to help facilitate the process.

    3. Check and confirm the simulated blood vessels are correctly inserted. This is performed by palpating for vessels.

    4. Apply the task trainer on the neck or leg of the animal or simulated animal/manikin ensuring the device placement is anatomically correct and fasten securely using the elastic or Velcro straps.

    PRACTICE IV/BLOOD DRAW

Follow your facility's policies and procedures.

    ANTICIPATED RESULTS

A simulated blood specimen is delivered (via flashback) only when the catheter is correctly inserted and a tourniquet* is properly tightened over the proximal end of the vessel.

    • Proper tourniquet placement or occlusion pressure is important.
    • Prefilled SBVs must be maintained at a near full volume.
    • Prefilled SBVs are designed for flashback only, not blood draws.
Use Ft1SBV or Ft2SBV for higher volumes required with blood draws.
    • Viewing a flashback for a correct needle insertion is not App dependent. A “miss” (defined as an incorrectly inserted IV catheter that goes too deep and would potentially cause injury to nerve or bone) will produce an audible “beep” from the battery box. Each "miss" is also captured, recorded, and available for later review.

    • The simulated blood in the pre-filled simulated blood vessels is NOT a bio-hazard.
